About 12 years ago we relocated to the little Spanish village of Sayalonga. Which is located in the south of Spain and about 45 minutes east of Malaga in the region known as Andalusia.
When we first moved in to our home it had a lot of unusable land because of its mountainside location.
We hired a mini digger to terrace the property hoping this would give us more usable land. Soon after completion the first heavy rains came. Our efforts were ruined and revealed the extent of our soil erosion problem.
Being in the "Campo" (Country) we are not allowed to build retaining walls. Anna is originally from Rhodesia which is now Zimbabwe. She was familiar with Vetiver Grass ( Chrysopogon Zizanioides ) and it's structural root system. We felt it would be worth trying it.
The Vetiver Grass bare root slips were planted and quickly resolved our erosion problems and the rest is history. Our company Vetiver Spain was born and the plant nursery established.
In september 2024 we have moved to Sayalonga in Spain to start a new adventure with our two daughters!
Today, we want to commit ourselves to a better world and improving nature. And with Vetiver Spain we think we can do that. It is a fantastic natural product that benefits both people and the climate.
We have a strong personal interest in agriculture and Vetiver in specific, but we also still have a lot to learn. We are therefore very happy that Anna and Dave will remain involved as advisors of Vetiver Spain. We will take on the task of introducing more people to Vetiver and thus making the world a little better!
Our property had a very steep hillside because of major soil erosion. This had made the land unusable for animals, crops or even walking on.
Terracing with the use of Vetiver ( Chrysopogon Zizanioides) bare root slips gave us a lot of additional usable land. On which we have now planted 350 Avocado, Olive and Citrus Trees and built 2 Greenhouses and our main Vetiver plant nursery.
Vetiver Grass ( Chrysopogon Zizanioides ) has solved our erosion problems by providing stability, enriching the soil, increasing crop production and conserving moisture.
